Homeowners' pick for appliance repair across California

Dishwasher Repair or Replace

If your dishwasher won't drain, leaves grit on the dishes, or puts water on the floor, we can look at it and tell you whether it's worth fixing. That's a fair question to ask up front. Some faults take one visit and a common part. Others are inside a machine that's close to done anyway. Here's how we sort it out.

Age is the first thing we ask about

Most home dishwashers run well for roughly ten years, sometimes longer with soft water and regular cleaning. Hard water around here shortens that. Scale builds up on the heating element, in the spray arm holes, and in the wash pump. Under about eight years old, repair usually makes sense. Once a machine is well past that, with a stained tub, rusting racks, and a door seal gone stiff, one repair tends to lead to the next. We look at the whole machine, not only the broken piece. Age by itself doesn't decide it. It does change the math.

The fault type matters more than the noise it makes

A loud dishwasher isn't automatically a dead one. Drain pump clogs, jammed check valves, worn door latches, failed float switches, chewed-up spray arm bearings, cracked drain hoses, burned-out heating elements: all normal repairs with normal parts. Those we fix. Where we slow down is a leaking tub seam, a rusted-through sump, or a control board failure alongside other worn parts. Water that gets into the base and sits there does damage you can't undo. When the leak comes from the tub itself instead of a hose or gasket, that's usually the end of the road.

Can we still get the part?

This is the quiet dealbreaker. Common models built in the last decade have parts from several suppliers. Older or discontinued models sometimes don't, especially proprietary control boards and molded tub pieces. We check availability before we recommend anything. If the part exists and ships in a reasonable time, repair is on the table. If the only option is a used board from an unknown source, we'll say straight out that we don't want it in your kitchen. We're an independent shop and repair all major brands, so we're not steering you toward any label.

What actually happens during our visit

We start with what you saw. When did it quit? Water left in the bottom? Any smell, noise, or error code on the panel? Then we run a cycle and watch it. Fill, wash, drain, heat, dry: each stage tells us something. We check the filter, the spray arms, the drain path, and the door seal. Hardness deposits show up fast in this region. Once we know which part failed, we tell you what the fix takes and what else looks tired. You decide from there, no pressure either way.

Honest cases where replacing wins

We'd rather point you to a new machine than take money for a bad idea. Replace when the inner tub is cracked or rusted through, when the machine is well past ten years and needs a control board plus a pump, when the racks have collapsed and bare metal tines are scratching your dishes, or when the unit has already been repaired twice in the last year. Consider it too if you're on a heat pump water heater and your old dishwasher has no internal heater. Newer units heat their own water and handle the lower supply temperature better. Call us and tell us what it's doing.

Dishwasher Repair or Replace — fast answers

Is a dishwasher that won't drain usually a cheap fix?

Often it's a clog in the filter, the drain hose, or the air gap, or else a failed drain pump. Those are standard repairs with parts on hand. Clear the filter yourself first. That alone solves plenty of them.

My dishes come out cloudy. Broken or just water?

Usually hard water and a low wash temperature, not a fault. Try a rinse aid and a dishwasher cleaner first. If the spray arms are blocked with scale or the heater has failed, that's a repair we can check.

How long should a dishwasher last in California?

Roughly ten years is typical. Hard water areas run shorter unless you clean the filter regularly and descale the interior. Softened water and going easy on detergent tend to stretch it further.

How it works

  1. Step 1

    Tell us the symptom

Call us or fill out the form, then describe what you hear, smell or see. Odd noise, standing water, no heat. Have the model number handy if you can reach it.

  2. Step 2

    We schedule a visit

Pick a window that fits your day. We confirm the address and ask a few questions first so the van carries parts that commonly fail on your machine.

  3. Step 3

    Diagnose and repair

Our technician tests the machine, explains what failed and lays out your repair options. Many jobs finish the same visit. If a part has to be ordered, we schedule the return before we leave.

Why homeowners call us

  • Hard water knowledgeSacramento Valley minerals scale up heating elements, valves and spray arms. We look for buildup, not just broken parts. Clearing scale and swapping clogged components keeps a dishwasher or washer from failing the same way again.
  • Heat pump dryersNewer heat pump dryers dry differently, and they fail differently. Clogged condensers, blocked drains, long cycle times, all of it has a cause. We service these units and vented models too, and we tell you what the machine needs.
  • Statewide coverageWe are based in North Highlands and work across California. Coastal humidity, valley heat and desert dust each stress appliances in their own way, so we factor local conditions into the diagnosis instead of guessing.
  • Straight answersSome machines are worth repairing and some are not. We tell you which, based on the failed part, the age of the unit and what else is likely to go next. Then you decide.
  • All major brands, gas & electricOne independent crew for Whirlpool, Samsung, GE, LG, Maytag, Bosch and more.
  • Straight answersWhen a repair doesn't make sense, we tell you, sometimes before we even roll a truck.
